27/02/2006 - Malawi - Malnitrition amongst children under 5

This trip was an assignment for Concern Worldwide to produce an editorial piece to raise awareness of an innovative feeding programme they are spearheading aimed at tackling malnutrition amongst children under 5 years. Initially referred to as plumpy nut, and called "Chiponde" by locals the paste provides children in need of nutrition with everything they need direct from the jar without the need to mix it with milk or water. This ready to use feature makes Chiponde an extremely safe product to be used and it can also be made locally and distributed to needy children negating the requirement for mothers to walk miles from their farms with sick children to centralised feeding areas.
