Crackin’ wee nite of film, photos and homemade soup at the studio yesterday.
Chris Leslie showed his latest short film – “Lights Out” which provides an insight into the remarkably varying opinions of the last inhabitants of Glasgows Bluevale and Whitevale high rise flats.
Lights Out is beautifully filmed and uses archive footage and residents old photographs togeher with recorded testimony to provide a wonderful and emotional record of the different relationships people have had with the same building.
Please take a few moments and checkout Chris’s work here – and spend a few pounds to watch the whole film “Lights Out”
The incredible Jeff Mitchell gave a wonderful insight into the making of his photo essay on the revolution in Ukraine in 2014 where over 100 protestors were shot dead by sniper fire at Maidan – Independence Square in Kiev.
I was very moved by this work – having camped out with protestors in Kyiv during the Orange Revolution in 2004 – it was chilling to see how 10 years of discontent with the governance of Viktor Yanukovych could lead to such destruction and loss of life.
My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine who are still fighting a daily struggle – a war – which we hear nothing about.
Jeff’s images are incredible. A family man who worked very hard under the most difficult circumstances to document the terrible events that unfolded in Kiev in February 2014.
You an see some of Jeff’s award winning work here – and I’ll post up a gallery of his edit later tonight.
Another highlight for me was Wattie Cheung bringing along his new/old Graflex camera – which is totally amazing! Loved it! It takes the same 5×4 film holders as my converted baby plate camera, so next week I hope he brings it back in to experiment with making baby wet plates on a Graflex. Yes – I’m a geek, and proud!!
Thanks so much for coming along and sharing your work folks. Can’t wait for the next one.
